Housing for All Legislative Breakfast Report

On Friday, February 26th, over 75 people signed on to the MICAH Housing for All Breakfast.

Roxanne Smith, founder of Housing for All at St Joseph the Worker in Maple Grove facilitated our discussion. Senator Hoffman indicated he would be a co-author of the Lead Safe Homes Bill. John Duffy, Duffy development, showed off their latest development Bottineau 3 in Maple Grove.

MICAH NorthEast Chapter March Newsletter Report

This year, our event, like so many other things impacted by COVID, was different. In the urgency to deal with the pandemic, combined with the ease of setting up virtual meetings, legislative committees were already up and running several weeks earlier than normal! This made picking our date a little tricky, since it’s hard to have a Legislative Breakfast without legislators (not to mention, no breakfast…) and the chapter needed to reschedule from our original Wednesday to a Friday, when only one committee meets. We met with 8 elected officials and 60 local voters on that Friday the 5th.

NorthEast Suburban Chapter February Report

Our monthly meeting brought together 15 of our NorthEast leaders to discuss a number of things. We got our Legislative Folders, to be used in this year’s legislative session and whenever we need facts to back up our requests. Dakota County Affordable Housing Coalition Meeting - December 5th

The Affordable Housing Coalition (AHC) will meet on Dec. 5th at 8:30 – 10:30 am for the combined Nov./Dec. AHC meeting due to the holidays. We will have a special topic and different location for this meeting.

Awareness & Action to Find Solutions

The whole process was a clear sign that as people come to understand the issues of housing and homelessness they are willing to stand up and help. Two Stillwater churches have joined MICAH already and more are considering it.

There’s an old folk song that has this refrain – “Step by step the longest march can be won. Many stones to build an arch – singly, none.” We are coming together to take the steps and lift those stones!
