South (Dakota County) Chapter Spring 2024 Report
MICAH South Chapter 2024 Policy Breakfast (virtual)
We had another very successful virtual “Policy Breakfast” on February 2. Approximately 50 interested citizens and various elected policy makers from across Dakota County were in attendance. Discussions centered on current and future policy actions and support vehicles available to help address affordable housing and shelter needs. Visit our chapter page for a video recording of the meeting and slideshow presentations.
Burnsville Presbyterian Church of the Apostles (PCA) Homeless Forum
Recently, PCA erected a tent on their property to symbolize the plight of homelessness. This triggered a large public reaction thinking it was a homeless encampment. PCA used this as an opportunity to host a forum on homelessness. MICAH South Chapter members attended via zoom and MICAH Executive Director Sue Watlov Phillips was a panel member. The video of this forum is now available at www.pcota.org.
International Day of Living in Peace together Event May 11 Lakeville
An observance is planned for Saturday May 11, 12-3pm, at Casperson Park in Lakeville on Lake Marion. MICAH South is in the early planning stages of supporting an information table/tent and a few additional tables for children’s games and other activities.
Heading Home Scott-Carver County Monthly Meetings
MICAH South Chapter started attending the monthly “Heading Home Scott-Carver Counties” meetings this quarter to provide a constant presence of information-sharing to their discussions about affordable housing. Scott County has been identified as a future MICAH Chapter for many years in our MICAH Strategic Plan.
