Anoka County Chapter - 2022 Year in Review
This year the Anoka chapter sponsored our annual virtual bus tour in October. Stops included Family Promise in Anoka County, Stepping Stone Emergency Housing, Matthew 25, Substance Church Manna Market, and Park Plaza Cooperative. We decided to include two food donation centers to highlight the issue of food insecurity in Anoka County. Rising food costs impact individuals and families’ budgets causing them to make difficult decisions to best cover their basic needs.
MICAH board member, Sue Baysden and member, Pastor Kristina Hill have been attending the Heading Home Anoka Housing Collaborative meetings. Sue also attended meetings regarding the grant application process for FHPAP and a new initiative Homework Starts at Home. She gave input on what local congregations are doing to address food insecurity in the community and also in the Anoka Hennepin school district.
We presented our chapter’s 2022 Community Hero award to Representative Connie Bernardy for her advocacy on housing issues in the Minnesota State Legislature. Representative Bernardy retired this year after several years of service in the legislature. Her voice will be missed.
The MICAH Anoka chapter meets the second Thursday at 4 pm via ZOOM. Contact Sue@micah.org for link details.
