Freedom From the Streets - Happy Anniversary!!
Freedom From the Streets (FFS) celebrated its first birthday last weekend at our St Paul meeting, Elim/Strong Tower Shelter dinner (where FFS members have cooked, served, and cleaned up after an evening meal for 4 months) and at the Minneapolis meeting on Monday.
Founded by MICAH Board Member, Junail Freeman Anderson. MICAH is key supporter as fiscal agency and providing over $10,000 in kind services and FFS funded through initial start up grant of $2,000 from St Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Maple Grove in June 2019, $25,000 grant from Pohlad Foundation.
Freedom from the Streets organizes people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness/housing crisis to use their own voice in making changes so everyone has a home that is affordable.
Current Key areas of work with State and local communities:
*Shelter Bill of Rights
*COVID-19 responses- testing available, isolation quarantine for people without homes, ensuring basic needs met for those who have no home to stay at- moving people into motels with resources to move into housing, campsites are safe and with sanitation services and motel and housing options
* Key Leaders and guidance on Homes for All Agenda- because you are poor does not mean you need supportive housing
