submitted by Candy Bakion
On Monday, March 6, at the North Regional Library, the MICAH Minneapolis Chapter joined Freedom from the Streets/No More Streets in hosting speakers and guests at our 2023 virtual and in-person Policy Luncheon.
A strong group of 12 people attended in-person, where tacos were served, and double that attended virtually.
MICAH history and introduction was presented by Candy Bakion. Junail Freeman Anderson introduced Freedom from the Streets/No More Streets. Pastor Stephine Williams O'Brien provided the faith reflection.
The theme of our two-hour luncheon was Bring Minnesota Home Now! with many powerful speakers giving their plan to help end homelessness - like Cathy ten Broeke, Executive Director MN Interagency Council on homelessness; Lorna Schmidt representing Catholic Charities; and David Hewitt Director of Housing Stability Hennepin County.
Other speakers gave powerful updates on what is happening now!!
Linda Soderstrom, who was displaced from NOAH units.
Dominique Brown, MICAH Board Member & Hen. Cnty. African American Comm. Engagement Coor.
Ricardo Perez from the Alliance Blue Line Organizer.
Sue Watlov Phillips gave updates and talked about what's to come. Looking to the future, I feel people felt informed and hopeful. Please feel free to join us next time.
