South Chapter Autumn Report
MICAH South Chapter Annual Bus Tour: We were busy the entire quarter with planning and contacting state, city, and county representatives, congregations, school districts, and interested MICAH supporters with information about our Affordable Housing Virtual Bus Tour. Registrations estimated between 50-60 participants for the tour on October 3, 2023. You can find a video of the event and presentation pdfs on our chapter page.
Cahill Place Get Together: On August 11, the MICAH South Leadership Team gathered with residents of Cahill Place apartments in Inver Grove Heights (a Center City Housing Corp. property). Cahill Place has 40 apartments for formerly homeless individuals and families. Over 50 residents and 13 MICAH members enjoyed a cookout and wonderful conversation.
Cahill Place is very special to MICAH South. It began as a vision of the pastor at nearby River Heights Vineyard Church a few years ago. With MICAH, Dakota County, the city of Inver Grove Heights, River Heights Vineyard Church, contractors, and citizens, the apartments were built. We plan to visit and host a barbeque next summer there!
Dakota County Permanent Shelter: The Dakota County Board of Commissioners first approved then, due to community concerns and objections, withdrew the proposal for a permanent adult shelter in an under-used hotel in Eagan. The Commissioners will continue to look for a suitable site.
