Freedom From the Streets - 7 Month Report
MICAH has been supporting a diverse group of people who have been homeless or are homeless, by sponsoring Freedom From the Streets. Co-Chairs are John Bradley and Junail Freeman Anderson (founder) who serves on MICAH’s board of directors.
In the seven months they have been meeting, they have been able to identify issues that need to be addressed in the shelter system, with police, and at the policy level.
Their guests have included Jim McDonough, Ramsey County Commissioner, Jane Prince, City Council Member, Joan Miltenberger, Catholic Charities.
Jane Prince brought Deputy Chief Paul Iovino and Sgt. Jamie Sipes to one of the meetings to discuss how police treat people who are homeless, in hopes of better interactions. Joan Miltenberger brought Chris Michels, Director of Housing Stability and Opportunity to address some concerns with treatment and services in the shelter system.
MICAH is proud of the progress Freedom From the Streets has made in positively impacting peoples lives through improvements in services. Much remains to be done and MICAH will continue to support this important network.
