Habitat for Humanity 3M Retirees Volunteer
“Three years ago our Lions Club in Hugo sponsored a picnic get-together at Generation Acres development that is being completed by Habitat for Humanity. Before the event I talked with Teresa Dahlem, the principal of Oneka Elementary School. I asked her how the children from the development were doing.
Here's what she told me:
1. Every student was at grade level or above.
2. Either one or both parents was/were involved in the Parent-Teacher Organization.
3. Every child was involved in an extra-curricular program (soccer, music, etc.).
4. There were 0 disciplinary problems.
This year I checked with Teresa again. My question was, "How are the same students doing?"
She replied that all were doing as well as or better than three years ago.
I find this very reassuring.”
